Starting the Corolla Cage

This weekend I had some free time and the garage was empty so we pushed in the corolla drifter and went to town.
Actually all I got done was the main hoop, measured for the side hoops, laid out the floor plates, and measured and cut the main hoop diagonal brace.

BMW Rally Skid Plate

The new skid plate made out of T6 6061 aluminum. This is the preliminary design, there is still more testing to see how well it handles being thrashed. As of right now there is a 16 pound weight difference between the new skid plate and the old one.

Wheel repair

Today I repaired an aluminum rim that got thrashed.
there was flat spots ground into the rimĀ  and a section was cracked and later found to be broken when I tried to straighten it
After prepping for weld I tacked the broken piece back into place.
